Comic convention results and eye problems

Mon Nov 2, 2009, 7:37 PM
Hi everyone! I'm glad to be back! I had a lovely time at the comic convention. I was able to meet some interesting people, like Robert Picardo (of Star Trek Voyager and Stargate/SG Atlantis fame), Michael Adamthwaite (a voice actor), Dave McCaig (colour designer for "The Batman" cartoon and colourist for several comics), Margot Kidder (actress who played Lois Lane in the old Superman movies), and many more.

The spoils I brought home included a bunch of flyers/cards, free comics, free posters, a World of Warcraft figure, a model of Uran (Astro Boy's robot sister), a pirate-themed cane, and a pair of autographs from Michael Adamthwaite (nice guy, we talked a bit about the business) and Robert Picardo. Those autographs felt a bit expensive, though (30 dollars in all).

Me and my friend went to some work shops about character design on Saturday. The person holding the work shop, Astra Crompton, was actually my friend's karate instructor from a while back. She was very nice. I managed to get a picture and signature from her, but I seem to have misplaced it...

Eventually me and my friend found out there was more stuff going on in another part of the hotel where the convention took place. My friend bought a ton of comics and we met up with Astra again. In between browsing, we stopped by an anime marathon taking place upstairs.

There were other things going on upstairs as well. There was a zombie movie marathon, question & answer periods with various convention guests, tabletop role-playing games and trading card game matches, and a room for kids to do some colouring/drawing.

There were also some performances going on upstairs later in the evening, but those were VIP-only. Getting in would have been very expensive. DX

At one point, we went out for lunch at a nearby pizza place. Along the way, we encountered a large cluster of people dressed as zombies. Apparently, there was a "zombie walk" going on. X3

Eventually, me and my friend headed home, but after supper, I sought to head back to partake of the anime marathon going on. Unfortunately, I couldn't stay for the Hellsing movies being shown at midnight. However, the volunteers managing the anime room were a very friendly and entertaining bunch. I had fun chatting with them and watching them play around. X3

On Sunday, me and my friend went back. I gave a zodiac Beanie Baby (Rat) to Astra. I figured I might as well, considering I didn't know anyone else nearby who was born in the Year of the Rat. At one point, I had wanted to get an autograph from Dave McCaig, but I had forgotten my DVD case of "The Batman" season one. So, with some planning, I managed to meet up with my father, drop off my stuff, pick up my DVD case, and get back with enough time to grab an autograph and do some things before me and my friend headed out.

*We made a quick stop by a comic shop (I actually forgot I had a special coupon for the comic shop that I nabbed at the convention >.<;), then we went back to my friend's house for dinner. We chatted a bit, I read his copy of Superman: Red Son, and then I went home to sort out my stuff.

All in all, it was a pretty good time. I kind of wish I had more money, though. XD

Right, now for the bad news...for some reason, my eyes have been a bit hazy, blurry and sore lately. I'm thinking I've been in front of my computer too much. At any rate, I'm going to get my eyes checked on Wednesday. Hopefully, everything will be all right with my eyes. I might need a break from electronic displays, though...

Well, I guess that's all. Hope you are all doing okay! Take care!

Man, I don't write journals a lot, do I? XD EDIT!

Anyway, hope everyone's doing well. Just wanted to mention/ask a few things.

First, let me say that I'm feeling much more positive than I used to. Love has stricken me like an ox sitting on a cactus, and I hope this feeling never goes away.

Second, I've recently signed up for Storm-Artists and RedBubble. So, if you ever decide to join up, or if you already have an account, you can find me here:

(I WAS thinking of signing up on places like Fanart Central, Art Spots, Pixiv, Worth1000 and Elfwood as well, but there's various problems with them, such as Pixiv being in Japanese, and Art Spots/Worth1000/Fanart Central having somewhat strict submission guidelines. Not even sure I should submit any of my junk to RedBubble, considering the quality of the art there...I mean, even the PHOTOGRAPHS look awesome. D: )

Third, I want to ask my friends/associates/watchers a question: Would you like me to talk to you more? Or at least comment on your art/profile pages more often? I just wonder if I've been neglecting a few of you.

And finally...I miss my subbie. T_T

BIG EDIT: I've gone PLATINUM! That's right, picked up Pokemon Platinum recently. If you want to add me as a friend, note/MSN me and we'll exchange friend codes. C:

Also, has there always been such a short cap on Journal titles here on DA? Or is that something recently implemented? It just feels shorter than usual, you know?

:iconvoiceinsight:

She needs money to help cover school expenditures, and she needs them fast! If you've got money, maybe give her a chance? I doubt you'll be disappointed!

UPDATE: On FA, I happened to notice some people who were in dire need of money for various expenditures. A couple of people have offered to draw pictures to raise money on their behalf. Further information is here, if you'd care to look...

I'd say this is a great deal.

Also, if I may, I'd also like to recommend these people for commissions (and if you aren't taking commissions at the moment, tough love...I'm recommending you anyways! X3 ):

:iconjojo-uk:
:iconmaxfirestorm:(I think he's still only doing colouring commissions, but he's pretty good, so if you've got stuff you need coloured, he's a good guy to look to)

One last thing, I think these people deserve at least a look over...could you stop by and give their art a shot? Maybe even drop a nice comment? Thanks in advance!

Ah, who am I kidding? There's a ton of people who deserve a look, and they are in my "friends" list. Thanks again to all those who help, even in the smallest way!

New "Club" of sorts...

Thu Apr 2, 2009, 11:13 PM
  • Mood: Joy
Yeah. I started this new account in the hopes of lifting people's spirits. More details are on the journal on the account, but let me just say that I'm looking for people to help maintain the account, contribute pictures and stock art, and find uplifting or inspiring pictures for the favourites. Any and all help with regard to this account would be GREATLY appreciated. Yes, maybe I might be biting off more than I can chew, and maybe this might seem a bit redundant in the face of places like =DeviantArtSecret and *ProjectPositivity, but I'd like to think that another place that caters to the feelings of the people behind the art is well worth the trouble.

Here's my attempt at making people feel happy:

~Say-a-kind-word

Even some ideas on what to add to the club would be helpful. Go on, don't be shy! :)

UPDATE July 17th: Say-a-kind-word has its first deviation submitted!
